Sorry if the blog seems to come and go today, I'm cleaning a few things up.

Also, I see there's a kerfuffle around the 'net over something called "bloglines"* and their tendency to take content from private sites and claim ownership over it or at least archive it on their own site. So I'm wondering if I shouldn't maybe add bloglines to my site's blacklist.

Other than that, I'm reading and Having Thoughts (be afraid) but nothing I'm ready to post about yet.

* Please be aware that "something called "bloglines"" is an implied but rhetorical question. I understand what it is. I just don't understand why it is, except that people have now grown too lazy to click a link and want their daily reading spoon-fed to them.

It's not a matter of laziness, Anne, it's a matter of time management. I subscribe to hundreds of blogs. If I have to click on every one of them separately to read them it takes a lot more time than just reading (or even skimming) them via Bloglines does. Bloglines was down yesterday morning so I reverted to clicking on individual blogs. In the time it usually takes me to read about two dozen blogs, I barely got through six. That's not an efficient use of my time. You can certainly accuse me of physical laziness, but I resent being accused of bloggy laziness!

My dear, I wouldn't dream of accusing you of any kind of laziness. I withdraw the remark.

Admittedly, I don't read more than a couple of dozen blogs a day. I do read, or at least skim, 30-40 news sites, but I can't imagine even trying to read "hundreds" of blogs a day!

It would be sad if you blacklisted Bloglines - I use it to get a quick view over who has updated and then I read my favorite ones, as many as I have time for. Yours is among the top ones of course but -in contrast to Elayne apparently - I always go to the actual site to read - I think that is the polite and also most rewarding thing to do. (No criticizm of of others implied.) But of course if you follow regularly hundereds of blogs that might be difficult.

On political or news blogs, for instance, Bloglines also helps you to sort out those postings that are of real interest to you.

Kind regards from Old Europe.

Bengt! How nice to see you again!

I won't be blacklisting bloglines. It was just a passing thought and clearly many people are finding it valuable.
