US to seek dismissal of Guantanamo cases

The US Justice Department will seek to stop more than 180 Guantanamo Bay inmates from pursuing court challenges against their detention.

"Justice" sure ain't what it used to be.

The US Justice Department will seek to stop more than 180 Guantanamo Bay inmates from pursuing court challenges against their detention.

Anne - Interesting the article *fails* to mention the following facts:

(1) Under Article 4 of the Geneva Convention, the detainees are not entitled to POW status.

(2) However, let's give them the benefit of the doubt because the Geneva convention was based on more traditional warfare combatants. So, let's give the detainees POW status. Even then, they would not be entitled to a lawyer, access to courts to challenge their detention (let alone having a DVD player), or the opportunity for release prior to the cessation of hostilities. Can you think of any other country that has let foreign combatants sue the host country? Yep, justice sure "ain't what it used to be."

(3) While the article claims only 9 out of 500 (or so) detainees have been charged, the article forgot to add that:

(As of 1 Oct) DoD has transferred or released 247 detainees from Guantanamo - 179 for release, and 68 transferred to other governments (29 to Pakistan, five to Morocco, seven to France, seven to Russia, four to Saudi Arabia, two to Spain, one to Sweden, one to Kuwait, one to Australia, nine to Great Britain and two to Belgium).

You'd think ABC news might at least have someone, anyone who could go to DoD's webpage and at least do *some* research..
