Got Books?

Books for New Orleans Libraries!
New Orleans Public Library is asking for any and all hardcover and paperback books to restock the shelves after Katrina. The library staff will assess which titles will be designated for the shelves. The rest will be distributed to destitute families or sold for library fundraising.

The books can be sent to:

Rica A Trigs, Public Relations
New Orleans Public Library
219 Loyola Avenue
New Orleans, LA70112-2007

If you tell the post office that the books are for the library in New Orleans, they will give you the library rate that is less than book rate. Good way to clean out those books you won't read again and write thedonation off your taxes.

It is a great opportunity to help. If you don't have books, they have a fund for donations.

Donations Information.

By gosh, I was wondering what to do with those three boxes full of books I sorted out a couple of months ago!

Just so you know, I forwarded this to my faculty listserv, in hopes of gleaning a few titles during summer office cleaning....

I know I've got multipe copies, books I don't use, etc., in quantity around here.

And, just as I read this, I remembered that a friend sent me a note saying that people can send books, but that the N.O. libraries don't actually have the staff to deal with them and they'd rather have money.

I forgot to update this post. My apologies.

It's incredibly difficult to find a place for excess books. I took so many to my neighborhood library that they started getting annoyed with me.

Most of us aren't that organized to actually send boxes of books anyway....

I'll see if the History Club wants to do a fundraiser, maybe.
