Stupidity Rules the Country

File this one under the heading of, "who gives a shit."

At Giants Stadium, a quarterback could mess up an important play because he didnít hear directions being given to him by his coach through a wireless mike.

Let me say that I know nothing about football and care even less. This new knowledge that the players themselves aren't the ones playing the game but are some kind of mobile chess pieces being directed second-by-second from the sidelines? Does not intrigue me.

There may indeed be potential problems with "unregulated and unlicensed devices" but Nadler doesn't make much of a case.

The link's not working, I'm afraid.

And you're right: There are a lot of other good reasons to be concerned about bandwidth pollution.

The chess piece thing? Well, they used to use hand signals, but those are too easy to decipher, with a little videotaping and analysis....

Argh. I hate when I do that. :) Fixed now.

What I want to know is, why aren't the guys on the field actually playing? Have they always been given step by step directions? How stupid is that?

Seems to me it would be a better "test" of which group of players is better if the players were responsible for, you know, the game.
