"Give me the liberty to know, to utter, and to argue freely according to conscience, above all liberties. Truth was never put to the worse in a free and open encounter..."
~ Milton
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

At the moment when I think the world is safe to blog in again, I run into something like this and I fall down, boggling, all over again.

So...the Mayor of Baghdad that we (i.e., Bremer) installed in Baghdad has been ousted and replaced at gunpoint. In Baghdad.

No form of rational, organized government has any control over any part of that country, does it?

I Just Can't

I meant to resume regular blogging, but I'm still kind of tired and very disgusted. Suffering from a little burn-out, I think.

I say, Go, Cindy Sheehan.

August 6, 1945. 120,000+ Japanese citizens died in almost the blink of an eye.

For those interested in this story, MoJo has a quick piece on Hiroshima, journalists, and secrecy in government.

DemocracyNow has a similar story.

Thanks to the Bush Administration, another Hiroshima (or worse)could lie in the world's future...and not distantly.

Nuclear proliferation. You should be afraid.

And don't forget this one (linked previously).

(P.S. Also? Our invasion of Iraq had everything to do with 9/11 and the Taliban and it's making us all safer and the terrorist bombings in London had nothing to do with terr--, um, bin Lad--, um the same kind of thing at all and, by the way, if you're thinking of traveling overseas, do be careful because that War On Terr--, um Struggle Against Extrem--, um, whatever it is we're doing, it's working and we're winning but you won't be safe. I'd like to be outraged, but I'm still out of outrage.)
