"Give me the liberty to know, to utter, and to argue freely according to conscience, above all liberties. Truth was never put to the worse in a free and open encounter..."
~ Milton
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Enough Crazy To Go Around

It was as irritating as hell when airlines started charging people who were traveling for carrying their luggage. As though it was somehow unusual or strange that someone leaving home would need a couple of changes of clothes and maybe a second pair of shoes or a jacket and maybe even want to tote along a gift for Mom.

As if that wasn't bad enough now Spirit is planning to charge people for carry-on luggage. Now it's not enough that they think you should travel without some clean pants and a couple of shirts. Now they want to charge you for carrying your deodorant and some toothpaste on board the plane with you.*

The crazy is piling up, isn't it?

But that's not all.

No, now another airline is considering charging you to pee.

No word, yet, on whether or not water, coffee, and soft drinks will still be distributed free on flights where you'll have to pay to pee thirty minutes later.

Can someone please tell these idiots that it would be less destructive all the way around if they just raised the damned fares?

* The whole "no liquids over three ounces" and only as many bottles as will fit in one quart bag" thing is a problem, isn't it? I mean, the landfills are going to pile up with the flood of used-once, plastic "travel size" containers people have to buy for their shampoo, creme rinse, mouthwash, body soap, etc.

So, you know, there goes the planet.

And I won't even get into the whole problem that plastic is made mainly from oil--a non-renewable resource (in practical terms)--our rapidly dwindling supply of which is currently one of the biggest sources of trouble on the planet.
