Comments: Celebrating Friday

Crime labs are usually just that, labs. The people who work there are not in law enforcement and if you can convince them to lock the door you've made a major security improvement. Look at what's been happening at Los Alamos and you will get a feel for the regard scientists and technicians have for security.

The are generally found in strip malls near a hospital and generally do lab work for doctors as well as the police.

Regarding applauding or denouncing the Bush administration, I have to say that the new bill, passed by the Republican-controlled Congress and signed eagerly by Bush, which toughens penalties and enforcement for identity-theft crimes is entirely welcome.

It's important to note when someone you basically think is ruinous and corrosive does something good. Keeps you balanced. You tried, but they failed. We'll keep looking.

Jonathan - I've been burned by this Administration too many times. I'm going to withhold judgement until I read some 'reviews' of the legislation by people who understand those things better than I do.

(Granted, on the face of it, I can't imagine how I wouldn't approve such legislation, but still.....)

I'm with Anne. I started out assuming this Administration was going to be like the Nixon or Reagan administrations, doing mostly moderate stuff to keep the centrist voters happy and then occassionally doing something really right-wing to keep the militant base happy. Instead, for the most part, its been "let's appease the militant base all the time, in all things." Even when Bush occassionally passes one of those laws that under Nixon would have been a sop to the centrist voters, Bush somehow twists it all around.

Like Anne, I've tried to give Bush the benefit of the doubt a few times, and I've been burned everytime. To take one example, I thought if there was one thing this Administration could do right, it would be fight a war. But they've proven themselves incompetant even there. It's amazing really.

Happily, only 6 more months of this.
