Comments: Boats to Bikes

The very good In These Times article reminds me of why I used to subscribe, and why I ought to scrounge up the change to do so again. I voted in the California recall election using Diebold electronic technology, but after what I've read since, I'll be voting the old-fashioned way this November. For now, Los Angeles County still offers folks a choice.

I love the bike-writing; I'll have to make a note to submit some text (it has to be pretty concise, and I can do that but only with editing) during the convention itself.

I am really quite concerned about the way in which voting technology has become a partisan issue. I entirely agree that it shouldn't be, but I haven't seen any self-identified Republican expressing serious concern about the new technology, and that raises all kinds of troubling implications and cultural questions. Maybe I'm just missing it, but it's making me nervous.

We will have the option to vote on paper this time around (though early walk-in absentee votes will only have electronic options), but if the election comes down to Hawai'i, we're all in trouble.
