Maybe I'm naive-- I haven't been active in fandom in quite a while-- but the sense I get from following various journals and blogs in fandom is that good writing is still a requirement for and from good writers. It's the crap writers who say you're being a jerk for asking for quality.

No, you're not naive. There are plenty of people out there who still care about quality. They're a bit harder to find, what with the rush of clueless idiots in the past few years, but they're there.

I just find it easier to complain about the idiots than to do the work to find the smart people (other than the ones I already know).
