Cheer up, Peevish. Things aren't as bad as you think they are. Actually, they may be way worse, but we're all in the same boat...well, except for the righties who are living in some kind of utopia where reality never intrudes. You can't go there, of course, unless you accept Dubya as your spiritual guide, and promise not to utter the word "impeach" until the Democrats are back in the White House.

But the sun will shine tomorrow, as long as you don't live near the Delaware River in Pennsylvania, in which case you may want to start building an ark.

This is my good deed for the day, and I now feel so....so...liberal.

do you have any canned peaches where you're hiding? 'cause i've got some sugar and evaporated milk. we could make dessert.

how deep underground to you have to be not to get baked like a chicken pot pie by a nuke, by the way?

Take a break if you must, we'll always be here if/when you return, but don't hide for too long!

I think we need to remember that most people's egos are fragile and cannot withstand a wholesale challenge to their worldview. Fanatics and fervent believers are going to dig in their heels that much more deeply when confronted with reality. It's very difficult and often personally painful to give up ego for the sake of learning and growing. Many people just aren't strong enough (particularly those who use superstition as a crutch in the first place).

Everyone needs cheering now and then, Anne. And, Elayne, you're 100% on target about the fragility of our egos when we are under attack, as they have been for quite a while now. We're probably tougher than we sometimes think we are, but there are definitely times when attacks or challenges do cut through the veneer, and for a day or two, lay bare the soft underside.

Actually, Anne, I'm not all that liberal. I'm really more of a closet-moderate, but I run the same paths of the Dems and Libs most of the time, and have just enough hutzpah to claim to be one.

Nice blog, by the way!
