Nice to know the world is still rolling along out there. I'm ensconced in a world of boxes and packing paper, desperately wondering why I never throw out any of this stuff: mugs from places that fired me, mugs from places that fired loved ones, crystal and china dishware of uncertain provenance, bag ties, lousy books, multiple copies of decent books, clothes I couldn't wear without a hunger strike, travel mugs without tops, children's water bottle tops without bottoms, wicker gift baskets in eastery colors. Then there's my beloved spouse, who still has her braille Russian dictionary....
No wonder our child is a packrat.

Sounds to me like you were all hoping that the Magic Moving Elves would show up before the day and take care of it for you. Heeheehee.
I'm glad to hear you're all settling in, though. Enjoy your Kansas summer!
Posted by Anne at July 23, 2008 03:55 PMWell, we did some reasonably aggressive processing and disposal while we were getting the house ready to show, and we did more while we were preparing for the move, but one of the downsides to hiring professional movers -- and with a blind wife and six-year old son, not to mention literal tons of books and LP records, the expense is worth it -- is that they don't think while they pack, except about how to pack what they've found. They're not quite Magic Moving Elves (for one thing, I'd expect Magic Moving Elves to have better taste in music), but they get the job done.
Yeah, we could have done the packing ourselves, but it would have added weeks of work. And there's a lot of stuff in that list I probably wouldn't have thrown away anyway.....
