Comments: Where did my country go?

It is very sad. For a few moments it looked as if the USA would regain its position as a moral and political partner in the international community. But, as far as I understand, this was only a momentary illusion and we will get with McCain 4 (8?) years of more of the same. Or worse.

It is very strange. I have always had a very negative opinion of US "isolationists". But now, when I read Buchanan who claims that the US should stay out of international conflicts except if US interests are directly threatened, I can only agree. The Caucasian quagmire and the new cold war, triggered by US actions, are the most recent examples.

Please don't think that I am "anti-American". It is just the opposite as a matter of fact. That's why I feel so sad about the present development.

I agree. I'm not an "isolationist" as such, but I don't think that's at all the same thing as opposing aggressive wars.

I can't whole-heartedly agree with the "if US interest are directly threatened" as an excuse for going to war though. There are more than a few people in this country who think Iraq's oil is "our interest."

I know you're not anti-American. Neither am I, but I completely disapprove of the path this country has been on for the last eight years.

Cheer up, though. Obama has a better than even chance of winning the election!

I think the worst part is that it's the Democratic convention, again. The Demos are the ones who are supposed to allow for freedom of speech, not try to suppress it. But Mr. Change has, of course, just picked Mr. Status Quo as his VP choice, so I'm sure a lot of former worshippers' eyes are being opened as we speak...

Mr. Status Quo will reassure the DC Pundits and Powerbrokers who are either afraid Obama is "too inexperienced" (give me a break), or afraid the country really is going to demand major changes in the way things get done.

And now, sadly, I have to close comments. Any time I leave comments open on this blog for more than a week, the sp*mm*rs go mad. I need to upgrade or move to new software. Sigh.
